Approximately 75 advocates gathered in Atlanta in late May to review the 2016 legislative session, celebrate recent achievements, and organize future coordinated legislative advocacy efforts with the disability community in Georgia. Attendees broke into small groups to discuss ways to engage more people across the state in legislative advocacy, identify key legislative issues, and consider how to maintain momentum beyond the annual legislative session. One participant shared that they enjoyed “the participatory format and opportunities to ask questions and comment,” while another commented that they most enjoyed the opportunity to “create a unified agenda.”
The Summit, made possible by a grant from The Arc of the U.S., and in collaboration through partnership with UNLOCK!, The Arc Georgia, The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, and the Service Providers Association for Developmental Disabilities.
Stay tuned for next steps and additional gatherings!
